Sparring -

This week was spring break so I had more time on my  hands. My siblings and I did some sparring in our garage in the mornings. We did about ten rounds each. The first few times it was sort of overwhelming and challenging but then it got a bit better. This is most likely because I have not sparred in a long time. I guess the more I practice sparring, the more comfortable I will become.

Weekends -

I have been falling behind on some of my forms for a while, but the weekends are helpful for me because I am able to catch up on my forms. The weekends are more open and I have more free time to work and improve my forms. Last weekend I worked on my forms a bit outside with my family which was nice. So it was good to get back on track with doing my forms.

First Presentation -

As I said before I am doing the broadsword form for my weapon this year. In the last I Ho Chuan class we “presented” sort of what we had learned so far and I was really nervous as well. Although it was good to get it over with because next time it won’t be as scary as this time was. I have learnt a bit more to the form since then. I’m feeling confident that I will have some more to the form by when the deadline comes around.

In Class -

Kung fu in person is quite a bit different than it is when we are online. In class I found I was focusing on how I was breathing and I guess controlling my breathing. But we also did everything a bit  slower than normally. Due to this I was also a bit more focused on when I was rotating on punches and other techniques. Switching from online to back in class is sort of weird to get used to just for not being able to do certain things. But it was nice to be back in class, on the mats.

Is it getting easier?

I am told often that if I keep doing something it will eventually get easier and easier. I'm getting told this constantly about blogging because blogging has been quite hard for me to sort of start writing or to think of what to write. But this also goes to a lot of different things like working out, or just lots of things in general. For working out the more you do it the easier it gets because you will start to get more muscles and get strong over time. I guess for blogging it will eventually get easier because I will get more comfortable(or at least hopefully).

-Forms-

For my first year of joining the I Ho Chuan I have chosen the forms Lao gar and the sword form. I chose the sword form because it just seemed to be an interesting form and it was quite fun to start learning it. I chose the form Lao gar because it also seemed to be interesting and I liked the flow of how it went. So far it has been good doing the forms. I have learned some more new parts to the sword form, and relearned the end to the lao gar form.

-Hello-

Hello, my name is Shira Csillag. For those who don't know me, I'm part of a family of six, five of which are in the I Ho Chuan this year. I have been doing Kung Fu for about 10 years now.  This is my first time joining the I Ho Chuan, so it has been a bit weird getting started with the requirements and goals for the year ahead.   I look forward to getting to know the team over the next year.
