Tai Chi
I have been doing tai chi for about almost two years I believe. Throughout going to tai chi I feel like I have been getting a better connection to my own body and how I feel when I do kung fu. I like to make connections to certain things i'm doing, they are always sort of weird but it's always connected to something that is funny and I will remember. For instance when I do a form, I always imagine myself as Zuko from avatar the last airbender. And in doing this it helps me perform 101%, it also helps me stay focus on my intent throughout the form. When doing tai chi you sort of move in slow motion. Last class I was trying to loosen up to become less tense when moving. I started to pretend I was a jellyfish. I know that doesn't make much since but jellyfish don't move in direct movements. They sort of just let the tide of the water move them, they just kinda move with the flow. So I was trying to not really control my movements I was just trying to let my arms move to wherever they need to be. I find it really helpful for me when I picture myself as something else.
Visualizing is a great tool to fuel improvement. I always visualize Bruce Lee when I do my forms, sound effects and all.
