Open training

Yesterday at open training noa, my dad and I were all sparing, then we started doing san sau, which is just sparing with takedowns. I found after when looking back I was just doing things that were like cemented into my brain if that makes sense? More of like I saw an opening and it was just like go go go! Normally when I’m sparing I have recently been trying to work on my technique instead of just jumping in, but this time it was more of I was just doing what felt right in the moment. When I sitting out and watching those that spare I always watch to see which type of sparing people do, like is it two hits and retreat or if they are the ones to counter. So then when I spare them I always try to use that to my advantage, if they are the one to wait for the other to strike first then I don’t give them that opportunity and I just keep going, like instead of doing 1 2 retreat I will do 1 2 3 4 5 then retreat throwing them off guard. Sparing is like a mental game. You have to always be thinking one step ahead, sort of like chess. I have always been scared of sparring but when I actually do spare I love it so much!
