the good and bad

My snake form(just the school form) has been progressing good. The snake form was quite tricky for me in the beginning as I could get the wiggle.. But I’m starting to feel like it’s getting there and I’m feeling more confident with how it’s going! It’s not progressing at the best speed although its still moving forward and I’m real proud of that. This year it’s been a bit different as I have to go out of my way to learn it as it’s not taught in classes, but it has helped me get out of my comfort zone and ask for help.  Also I have been taking more opportunities in teaching classes which has helped me improve on that aspect! I have done the warm up in classes which lets me control what I do, I normally try to do something cardio which has(or at least I think it has) helped bring up my stamina.  On the other note my numbers have not been looking to hot… I had this problem last year, and it has been carrying on to this year. But I don’t sit down and write out my number so the ine...

Connections

Every class I make an effort to talk to students about how they are doing. This also includes weather they are excited/ready for Kung fu. If they start to say no, I try and boost their mood and try and get them excited for Kung fu. This could be giving me things to do in the warm-up(if I’m doing it) or just talking about fun things. And being really energetic about it. This helps me gauge how much I will push them in classes. For example if a student has been having a rough time I will still push them but I will add a larger amount of positive and reassuring feedback towards them. Not saying I don’t give positive comments to other; I just know when I struggle I value those little comments a LOT more then when I’m in a good mood. As well at the end of the class I make an effort to go to the students not in the best mood at the beginning of the class and check how they are feeling now that class was over, and ask if they were happy that they came. Sometimes they still feel down but the m...

Going on a trip

Last week I was gone on a trip and as it was REALLY fun and I really enjoyed myself, I got back late last sunday and it kinda hit me that I'm actually back and have a LOT of responsibilities to take care of. The main one on my mind is kung fu. With teaching and my own training it has been a lot to take in, as I feel like I missed a lot. A lot of practice missed and a lot of time lost. As I didn’t do like any training well I was on my trip.. I did lots of walking and aok but not a lot of push ups, sit-ups, etc.. But the best thing I can do right now is Kung fu. Just keeping the consistency in my life and not letting it go.  I had a lot of mixed emotions with Kung fu as my mental state has been effecting it a lot. In like I have been kind of avoiding this blog, and just getting started with my training again… push ups - 701 Sit ups - 725 Hand form - 96 Weapon - 90 Kilometres - 367 Aok - 230 Blogs - 8 +1 Sparring - 95 Personal :  Gratitude - 5 Journaling - 7 Keeping room clean - ...

A disconnect

As much as I would like to say this week was good, it wasn’t really. Like there were good parts and bad parts. As most know I tend to look at things in more of a negative perspective which I have been trying to work on. It’s easy to think positive when things are going somewhat good. But once they start crashing it gets really hard, at least for me. Lately I have been really stressed as a bunch of personal stuff has happened, as well as I’m going to a school trip over spring break. This has brought me more anxiety; I have been stressed about not having my mental support(mom and dad) when I’m there. And I know I can still text them but I will also be 8ish hours ahead. Throughout being stressed I have been sort of avoiding Kung fu and my training. Over the last while I have always waited till the last min to blog. Or have missed classes because I physically don’t wanna move. This has been sort of making things worse as when I don’t do my requirements I tend to think I’m letting everyone(...

A friend

This week I was really struggling with my mental health. Well there were ups I have been caught looking at the negative. But something that has really helped hangs my perspective was that one of my friends constantly came over to help me. Even if it was last minute they would have been here in a heartbeat. This really helped as when I get stuck in my mental health it gets harder to see that I have people that are here for me. But they were constantly there reminding that I’m not doing this alone. As I have their back and they have mine. This goes for the people on and off the team at Kung fu. As sometimes it may be hard to see that people have your back, but I know I have all of your backs so I think that it goes both ways.  As well as last year we were told to get besties in the group and I did and they continue to push me to do my best and keep reminding me to keep moving forward. This is really helpful as I know whatever happens they are here for me.  I didn’t make much pro...

My plan

This week was not my best week for my own practice, but at the same time it was? I find I'm always at the kwoon, and don't get my wrong the kwoon is literally my happiest place and I love being there!! But I find I don't necessarily work on things I plan to because I normally am teaching. So its not things I originally plan to work on but they are things I probably do need to work on. But this week I am planning to go early on a few days to get some of my practice in! And just to keep myself accountable I'm blogging about what I'm going to do.  I plan to progress my beta weapon form as well as my hand form. The forms I picked this year make me really excited that I get to do them. Always providing me with questions, which I'm starting to see that I don't have questions because I'm not improving, instead I'm thinking that we have questions when we are thinking about things which leads us to improve.  push ups - 586 Sit ups - 630 Hand form - 56 Weapon ...

Working on new things

Over the last week I have been focusing on a new-ish kick. The flying spinning roundhouse, this kick has brought challenges and insights.  I find I really have to warm up before throwing the kick, which I never did much before(I know that’s not good..). As well I have had to work on my timing of when to jump and when to actually throw the kick. This has been one of the biggest challenges with any of my flying kicks. As I think I’m throwing my kick late because I’m finishing my kick right before I land. Where as I want to kick at my apex. And it go in to more depth, when I kick I’m finding I have like no six harmony's… I don’t know how to get this besides just practice, practice, practice. And I think this is leading to other problems, like when I kick in the air(with no bag) I find I don’t feel that release so I keep over-extending.  Over the last but I feel like I have really been taking my training into my own hands. Like I’m trying to focus and actually work on certain thin...
